Psoriasis is a chronic autoimmune condition causing red, scaly patches of skin. It is often accompanied by itching or discomfort and may affect the scalp, knees, or elbows.

Cause

Immune Dysfunction: Overactive immune cells cause rapid skin cell turnover.
Triggers: Stress, infections, or certain medications.

Ways of Diagnosis

Physical Examination: Identifies characteristic scaly plaques.
Skin Biopsy: Rules out other conditions.

Different Types of Treatments Available:

Topical Treatments: Corticosteroids, vitamin D analogs, or coal tar.

Phototherapy: UV light therapy to slow cell growth.

Systemic Medications: Methotrexate, cyclosporine, or biologics.

Side Effects:

Medications may cause liver or kidney issues; topical treatments may cause mild irritation.
