Description

Balding Pattern

Balding patterns, commonly referred to as male pattern baldness or androgenetic alopecia, involve a progressive thinning of hair, usually starting at the temples or crown. Over time, these areas merge, resulting in partial or complete baldness. This condition is the most common type of hair loss and often carries a genetic predisposition.

Cause

  • Hormonal Factors: Increased sensitivity to dihydrotestosterone (DHT), a byproduct of testosterone, leads to hair follicle shrinkage.
  • Genetics: A hereditary condition passed down from either parent.
  • Aging: The risk of balding increases with age.
  • Lifestyle Factors: Stress, poor diet, or smoking may accelerate hair loss.

Ways of Diagnosis

  • Clinical Examination: Dermatologists observe the pattern and progression of hair thinning.
  • Scalp Biopsy: A small sample of the scalp is analyzed to confirm androgenetic alopecia.
  • Blood Tests: To rule out underlying conditions like thyroid disorders or nutritional deficiencies.

Different Types of Treatments Available:

Topical Minoxidil: Stimulates hair growth.
Oral Finasteride: Reduces DHT levels.
Low-Level Laser Therapy (LLLT): Stimulates hair follicles using light.
PRP Therapy: Encourages follicle regeneration.
Hair Transplantation: Surgical restoration of hair in bald areas.
Scalp Micropigmentation: Cosmetic procedure to replicate the appearance of hair.

Side Effects:

Medications: Potential sexual dysfunction with Finasteride, scalp irritation with Minoxidil.
PRP and Laser Therapy: Mild soreness or redness post-treatment.
Hair Transplants: Risk of infection or scarring.

Symptoms When to Visit a Doctor:

Rapid hair thinning or bald patches that appear suddenly.
Hair loss accompanied by itching, redness, or scaling.
Desire for advanced or cosmetic interventions for hair restoration.
