Light or Superficial Chemical Peels:
Because of their speedy results, this chemical peel is also known as the Lunchtime Chemical Peel. Using relatively mild chemicals like AHAs (lactic, citric, mandelic, tartaric, and glycolic acid) and BHAs (beta-hydroxy acids) like salicylic acid, it exfoliates the epidermis, the topmost layer of skin. Chemical peels applied superficially promote the production of collagen and elastin, giving the skin a smoother, more youthful appearance with fewer wrinkles and fine lines.
Medium Chemical Peels:
To help treat acne scars, discoloration, wrinkles, and age spots, a medium chemical peel removes dead skin cells, oil accumulation, and filth from the dermal layers in addition to the epidermis. Trichloroacetic Acid Chemical Peels (TCA) and Jessner’s solution—a mixture of lactic acid, salicylic acid, and resorcinol—are commonly used to treat medium peels.
Deeper Chemical Peels:
These peels not only visibly reduce wrinkles but also effectively treat severe atrophic scars. They penetrate all layers of the skin and produce a dramatic alteration; they are more intense than light and medium chemical peels. Deeper Chemical Peels require general anesthesia since the chemical used, phenol, is particularly reactive to the skin.
